Name: Hikaru
Series:
Magic Knight Rayearth
Completed:
May 2006

COSTUME INFO: Any series made by CLAMP should be cosplayed ^_~ The design of their characters is amazing and Magic Knight Rayearth is a classic CLAMP series. While Umi is my favorite, Hikaru is a close second ^_^ Both characters have a lot of inter action with Mokona! ^_~ Hikaru always had such a cheerful personality that I always liked her ^_^ This costume from the art book was my favorite.

The coolest feature of the whole costume all the jewels light up!! Soon I will take a night photo and turn the jewels on. I did at Animazement and it turned out very cool ^_^

CHARACTER INFO: Hikaru was just a normal school girl on a trip to Tokyo Tower when suddenly she is taken to a whole new world where she becomes a legendary Magic Knight! ^_^

Costume Construction:

Wig: This was a red costume wig that I bought off of eBay and cut, styled and altered to look as much like Hikaru's hair as I could. She has a very messy style of hair so it was a little hard ^-^ but I like the way it turned out ^_^

Armor: The basic way I made the armor was to take wire and shape a base to work with. After that I covered the base with a mesh wire coving. I made sure to build in wire loops to attaching it to the costume and for adding in the lights and jewels later on. After the frame of each part of armor was finished I then used a paper clay on the outside to mold it. Once it was dry it was sanded smooth and painted. After that I added in small flash lights into the armor. Last it was time to add in the large jewels. The large jewels were made from half of clear Christmas ornaments that were painted with stain glass paint. There is a basic idea of how I made the armor ^_^

Boots: The boots were made from boot covers that I already had from my Umi costume. The only change I had to make was a lose red cover to go from the knee down.

Costume: For most of the costumes no patterns were used. The only part I did use a pattern for was the white part of the skirt. I bought a pattern for a long ballet skirt and used that. Ballet skirt patters are wonderful if you need a super full skirt. I highly recommend every cosplayer buying a ballet skirt pattern just to have ^_^
